Girls in Tech presents Start It Up!

A practical, no-nonsense guide to starting a company, raising money,
and building your first product. Everyone can and should be an
entrepreneur, and it's a little knowledge and a dash of courage that
separates an employer from an employee. We'll quickly cover market
selection, co-founders, fundraising, common characteristics of
successful companies, and realistic timelines, expectations, and
outcomes. There will be Q&A afterwards as well for specific issues.

Presented by Naval Ravikant:

and contributor to the Venture Hacks blog (which he co-founded). He is
currently an active angel investor in over 25 early-stage ecommerce
and social media startups, including Twitter, Social Media, and
WeGame. He is also Executive Chairman of Vast.com, and a Director at
Hive7 and Mercantila, Inc..

Previously, he founded Genoa Corp (acq. Finisar), Epinions (went
public as part of Shopping.com), Chainn Inc. (a large Facebook app
developer), Hive7, & Vast.com. He advised Bix.com (acq. Yahoo), iPivot
(acq. Intel), Dulance (acq. Google), & XFire (acq. Viacom), among

Girls in Tech & Bay Area Women In Film and Media

Girls in Tech is a social network enterprise focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of like-minded, professional, intelligent and influential women in technology. As young women with the capacity to inspire, we made it our personal desire and passion to create and sustain an organization that focuses on the collaboration, promotion, growth and success of women in the technology sector.

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP

Orrick’s founding office opened in 1863, and for 146 years has played a major role in shaping present-day San Francisco. We helped guide the financing of such landmark projects as the Golden Gate Bridge, Candlestick Park, BART, and the George Moscone Convention Center. Today, we represent many of the Bay Area’s leading companies and institutions in their corporate transactions and litigation disputes both domestically and internationally.

With more than 200 resident lawyers, Orrick’s San Francisco office provides legal services to clients in a wide range of industry sectors including financial services, municipalities, real estate, manufacturing, utilities, and energy. In addition, our lawyers have extensive emerging markets experience representing international development and commercial banks and industrial companies conducting operations around the globe.

In fact, Orrick's San Francisco office is highly respected in the U.S., Asian, and European marketplaces for work on major cross-border and domestic legal matters involving corporate, litigation, intellectual property, public finance, tax, labor and employment, private finance, bankruptcy, structured finance, real estate, and energy and project finance.

Across the firm, seamless client service is Orrick’s number one goal. When needed, our San Francisco lawyers can call on the substantial resources of Orrick's other U.S., European, and Asian offices to provide clients with the kind of comprehensive expertise and support they need for their domestic and international transactions.
